Title of the invention
Optical lighting or signaling unit for a motor vehicle comprising an opaline mask
Field of the invention
The present invention relates generally to the field of lighting and signaling systems for motor vehicles.
It relates in particular to an optical lighting or signaling unit for a motor vehicle.
Background of the invention
Such an optical block conventionally comprises a housing whose peripheral edge supports an outer covering ice and enclosing at least one fire intended to provide a lighting function, such as for example a position light (also called night light or lantern) or a signaling function, such as a reversing light, a turn signal indicator, or a daytime running light (DRL), which is automatically lit when the vehicle is moving towards the front to increase visibility in daylight conditions.
Each light comprises one or more light sources such as light-emitting diodes, which are now considered as an advantageous alternative to incandescent bulbs in terms of lower power consumption, longer life and more style.
The latter, however, have the disadvantage of having a wide angle of illumination, which causes widespread diffusion and many losses in an application to illuminate a remote area.
Also, it is known to provide inside the housing a transparent light device comprising at least one light guide having an input surface of the light rays generated by such a diode and an exit front face located opposite said ice cover
The light rays which reach this front face at a determined angle thus emerge from the optical unit in the form of a light beam of maximum light intensity oriented towards the target to be illuminated.
So that the light guide is not visible from the outside when the fire is extinguished, the French patent application FR 3,014,787 proposes to provide an opaque mask surrounding it in its entirety with the exception of its front face. outer cover ice.
However, when the fire is lit, the presence of such an opaque mask gives it a punctual light effect that is not the most aesthetic.
Object and summary of the invention
The present invention therefore aims to mask the light device when the fire is off while avoiding this punctual light effect when the latter is illuminated.
It proposes for this purpose an optical lighting or signaling unit for a motor vehicle comprising a housing whose peripheral edge supports an outer covering ice; said housing containing a light having at least one light diode and a transparent light device comprising at least one light guide having an input surface of the light rays generated by said diode and an output front face facing said ice cover ; said fire further comprising a mask laterally surrounding at least a portion of said light guide; characterized in that said mask is made of an opaline material.
Such an opaline mask has, when the light diode is off, a substantially opaque appearance at least partially concealing the light guide. On the other hand, when this light diode is lit, this mask makes it possible to generate a diffuse effect giving a particularly aesthetic impression of luminous homogeneity over the entire surface of the cover glass situated opposite this light.
According to preferred features of the invention, taken alone or in combination: - said light device comprises a plurality of light guides each associated with a corresponding diode, said mask laterally surrounding at least a portion of said light guides; said luminous device also comprises a support wall connecting said light guides to each other; said opaline mask comprises a facade covering the front face of said support wall of the light device, as well as a plurality of elements projecting from the front of said facade and laterally surrounding at least a portion of said light guides; said projecting elements are in the form of cradles laterally surrounding the portions of said light guides situated at the front of said support wall and with the exception of their upper faces; said light guides have a rectangular cross-section, said cradles having a U-shaped cross section; said diodes are of two different colors alternately distributed one after the other; said opaline mask is made in one piece by molding from a transparent thermoplastic material in which gaseous inclusions or microbeads of opalescent material are incorporated; the rear face of each at least said light guide has an inclined parabolic profile, the latter forming a reflective surface returning the light rays penetrating through said input surface towards said front exit face; and / or - said front exit face of the at least said light guide has a stepped shape with flat horizontal steps and vertical risers each comprising a plurality of convex facets joined laterally.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The description of the invention will now be continued by the detailed description of an exemplary embodiment, given below by way of illustration but without limitation, with reference to the appended drawings, in which: FIG. a perspective view of the upper part of an optical signaling unit of a motor vehicle according to the invention, the left part of which has been torn off along the vertical longitudinal section plane II-II; - Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section taken along the section plane II-II of Figure 1 of the upper part of the optical block according to the invention; - Figure 3 is a horizontal section of the upper part of the optical block of Figure 1, taken along the median horizontal plane of the light device; and FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the light device and the mask that comprise the optical block according to the invention.
Detailed description of a preferred embodiment
An orthogonal reference mark XYZ is defined in the figures comprising three mutually perpendicular axes, namely: an axis X defining a longitudinal direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle; a Y axis defining a horizontal transverse direction; , which with X-axis defines a horizontal XY plane, and - a Z-axis, defining a vertical direction, perpendicular to the horizontal XY plane.
Figures 1 to 3 here represent the upper part of a rear optical signal unit 10 to be mounted on the body structure of a motor vehicle.
This optical unit 10 comprises a housing 11 whose peripheral edge supports an outer transparent cover skin 12.
In the remainder of the description, the terms "front" and "rear" will be used to designate portions of the same element respectively oriented towards the outer cover glass 12 and towards the bottom of the housing 11.
The upper part of this housing 11 delimits a chamber 13 enclosing a dual function light 14 (recoil and change of direction indicator).
The light 14 comprises a transparent light device 20 comprising a plurality of light guides 21 (in this case seven) oriented substantially longitudinally and distributed laterally at regular intervals along the outer cover glass 12, and a curved support wall 28 connecting said guides 21 to each other and extending laterally along the curvature of the same outer ice 12.
This light device 20 is preferably made in one piece by molding from a transparent thermoplastic material, optionally dyed in the mass such as polycarbonate (PC) or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA).
As illustrated in FIG. 4, the support wall 28 comprises means for enabling it to be fastened to the housing 11, the latter being in the form of fixing lugs 29 cooperating by screwing or snapping together with complementary means provided on this housing 11.
The light guides 21, which here have a substantially rectangular cross-section, comprise a front portion 22 projecting at the front of the support wall 28 and a rear portion 23 projecting behind the same support wall 28 (see FIG. 2). .
The light 14 also comprises a PCB (Printed Circuit Board) 30 extending horizontally inside the chamber 13 and being fixed to the housing 11 by fastening means coacting with snap-fasteners. complementary means provided on this housing 11.
The card 30 carries seven light sources 32 constituted in this case by light-emitting diodes of the electroluminescent type (LEDS) or laser (one for each light guide 21).
The latter are of two different colors, namely four of white color intended to provide the reversing function and three of orange for the function of indication of change of direction.
The seven white and orange diodes 32 are alternately distributed one after the other so as to each be located vertically above the rear end 24A (the one facing the bottom of the housing 11) of the upper face 24 of the a corresponding light guide 21.
It will be noted with reference to FIG. 2 that the diodes 32 have vertical transmission axes substantially perpendicular to these planar and horizontal upper faces 24 whose rear ends 24A constitute the input surfaces in the guides 21 of the light rays emitted by these diodes.
As illustrated in Figures 2 and 3, the rear face 25 of each light guide 21 has an inclined parabolic profile, the latter forming a reflective surface through which the light entering through the input surface 24A of this guide 21 is returned towards its exit front face 26 (turned towards the outer cover glass 12) in the form of a parallel ray beam oriented in a substantially longitudinal direction.
This front exit face 26 of each of the light guides 21 has a stepped shape with flat horizontal steps and vertical risers each comprising a plurality of convex facets 27 laterally joined (FIGS. 2 and 4), so as to ensure a diffusion light according to an emission cone according to the regulatory photometric grid which imposes compliance with a specific light intensity range for each of the points of this grid.
The light 14 also comprises an opaque screen 35 located just behind the outer cover glass 12 and having opposite the light device 20 a substantially rectangular window 36 allowing the light rays coming out of the light guides 21 to pass in the direction of this outer ice of cover 12.
This opaque screen 35, fixed to the housing 11, thus makes it possible to conceal the upper part of the chamber 13 hosting the printed circuit board 30 when the diodes 32 are off.
The fire 14 further comprises an opaline mask 40 attached to the light device 20 and advantageously made in one piece by molding from a transparent thermoplastic material such as polycarbonate (PC) or polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) in which are incorporated gaseous inclusions or microbeads of opalescent material.
More specifically, the opaline mask 40 has a curved facade 41 covering the front face of the support wall 28 of the light device 20 and seven cradles 42, U cross section, projecting from the front of the facade 41 and laterally surrounding the front portions 22 of the light guides 21 except for their upper faces (Figures 1 to 4).
The opaline mask 40 also includes four sidewalls 43, 44, 45, 46 extending to the front of the facade 41 from its lateral edges to the back of the opaque screen 35. It is also attached to the screen 35 by means of fastening means 47 formed on the curved free edges of its two upper and lower side walls 43 and 44 cooperating by snapping with complementary means provided on this screen 35.
When the diodes 32 are off, the opaline mask 40 has a substantially opaque appearance concealing the light device 20 with the exception of the front faces 25 and upper 24 of the light guides 21.
Thus, an observer looking at the optical unit 10 from the rear of the vehicle will perceive seven illuminated point squares corresponding to the seven front faces of the light guides 21 reflecting the light rays coming from outside (the upper faces 24 of these guides 21). not being visible because hidden by the upper periphery of the window 36 of the screen 35 interposed between them and the eyes of the observer). On the other hand, when the white or orange diodes 32 are illuminated, the opaline mask 40 generates a diffuse light effect.
Thus, an observer looking at the optical unit 10 from the rear of the vehicle will perceive a substantially homogeneous illumination over the entire surface delimited by the contour of the substantially rectangular window 36 of the screen 35.
According to alternative embodiments not shown, the number of diodes 32 and light guides 21 is different, the latter being for example between one and ten.
According to other embodiments not shown, the diodes are all the same color so that the light 14 provides a unique lighting or signaling function such as recoil, change of direction indicator, DRL or lantern.
According to still other embodiments, the shape and / or the dimensions of the light guides are also different. The section of these guides is not necessarily rectangular but for example circular, square, pentagonal or hexagonal. In general, it is recalled that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described and shown, but encompasses any embodiment within the scope of those skilled in the art.
In particular, it should be noted that the invention is not limited to a particular type of implantation and that it also relates to the optical signaling and / or lighting units intended to be located at the front of the vehicle.
